In 2026, a GEP ECOTECH GD series dual-shaft shredder for low-carbon steel scrap processing was successfully installed and put into operation at a galvanized steel pipe manufacturing company in South Korea. The project was designed to solve two major challenges faced by the customer: high-volume lightweight steel scrap that was difficult and costly to store and transport, and the risk of unauthorized reuse of discarded metal materials.

The customer generates approximately 8 tons of low-carbon steel scrap per day, including stamping offcuts and rejected structural components. The main requirements were: firstly, to significantly reduce scrap volume and increase bulk density through shredding, thereby lowering transportation and storage costs; secondly, to completely destroy the original shape of the scrap to prevent it from being illegally recovered and re-entering informal manufacturing channels.

Considering the high toughness and ductility of low-carbon steel, as well as the required processing capacity, GEP ECOTECH conducted multiple rounds of testing and recommended one GD8 dual-shaft shredder. Featuring a low-speed, high-torque shearing design, the machine uses two counter-rotating cutter shafts to effectively tear and shear steel scrap. A single unit can meet the customer's capacity requirements while delivering uniform output size and complete material deformation.

Equipped with two 45 kW motors, the GD8 adopts an integrated shredding chamber design to ensure excellent rigidity and stable operation. The cutters are manufactured from imported high-alloy wear-resistant steel and feature a unique removable cutter design for easier maintenance. In addition, the machine is equipped with multiple sealing systems and heavy-duty imported bearings specially designed for metal processing applications, effectively extending service life.
This GD8 Low-carbon steel scrap shredder has successfully helped the customer achieve more efficient, safer, and standardized low-carbon steel scrap management, improving handling efficiency while supporting sustainable metal recycling.
