Different Options for Double-Shaft Shredder Cutters

7

In the field of solid waste treatment and resource recovery, the double-shaft shredder is a core piece of equipment due to its strong shearing force and wide applicability. Whether for municipal solid waste, industrial waste, medical waste, or scrap metal, the performance of the shredder directly determines the efficiency and reliability of the entire processing line. As the component directly involved in the shredding process, the material selection for the cutters is a key factor affecting equipment lifespan, processing efficiency, and operational costs. As a professional shredder manufacturer, we offer two mainstream cutter material options—NiCrMo High-Alloy Steel and Stainless Steel—tailored to different material characteristics. We can also provide customized matching based on the customer's specific operating conditions, ensuring the equipment optimally handles various challenges.

NiCrMo High-Alloy Steel Cutters: Preferred Choice for Wear Resistance and Long Lifespan

NiCrMo high-alloy steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel. By adding alloying elements such as molybdenum and vanadium, a large number of high-hardness carbides are formed. After special heat treatment, the hardness can reach HRC 58-62, providing extremely high wear resistance and compressive strength. This material is specifically designed for highly abrasive and hard materials, such as scrap metal, tire wire, construction formwork, and bulky furniture. Its good hardenability ensures uniform hardness even in cutters with thick cross-sections, while its low heat treatment distortion guarantees installation accuracy and long-term operational stability.

It is noteworthy that NiCrMo high-alloy steel cutters are repairable after wear: By applying a wear-resistant alloy layer onto the worn cutting edge through a build-up welding process, the original dimensions can be restored, allowing the cutter to be used again. Depending on the degree of wear, a single cutter can typically be repaired 4 to 6 times, significantly reducing the user's spare parts costs.

Applicable Material Examples

Scrap metal (color steel tiles, car bodies, metal chips)

Tires (including steel-belted radial tires)

Bulky waste (mattresses, furniture, garden branches)

Hazardous industrial waste (oil drums, chemical containers)

Municipal solid waste (highly abrasive components)

Summary of Advantages

Extremely high hardness and wear resistance, leading to longer lifespan when processing high-strength materials.

Good toughness, preventing brittle fracture.

Dimensionally stable heat treatment, suitable for high-precision assembly.

Repairable via build-up welding; a single cutter can be built-up welded for 4-6 times, significantly reducing long-term operating costs.

Stainless Steel Cutters: Guarantee of Corrosion Resistance and Cleanliness

Stainless steel cutters are manufactured from low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. Their core advantage lies in excellent corrosion resistance. Benefiting from the addition of higher amounts of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, these cutters effectively resist corrosion in humid environments, acidic media, and media containing chloride ions. For instance, when processing medical waste, kitchen waste, municipal solid waste with high moisture content, or industrial waste containing chemical solvents, the dense passive film formed on the surface of stainless steel cutters remains stable over long periods, preventing rust from causing secondary contamination of the material.

Furthermore, stainless steel possesses good toughness and low-temperature impact properties, making it less prone to chipping when shredding tough materials. Its non-magnetic characteristic also enhances safety in applications like processing electronic waste or batteries.

Applicable Material Examples

Medical waste (syringes, medicine bottles, protective clothing)

Kitchen waste and food waste

Electronic waste and spent batteries

Hazardous industrial waste containing corrosive components

Plastic recycling with high requirements for product purity

Summary of Advantages

Outstanding corrosion resistance, suitable for humid, saline, or chemically aggressive environments.

Maintains material purity, avoiding iron rust contamination.

Good toughness, suitable for handling mixtures of soft and hard materials.

Excellent weldability (Note: However, once stainless steel cutters are worn, they cannot be repaired through build-up welding and typically require complete cutter replacement).
